We try not to draw lines and live what we say,"ALL are welcome".
We are in El Paso's northeast, easily accessible from US 54, on the corner of Kenworthy and Sun Valley.
Moons ago, as an Intern Seminarian at St Johns Lutheran in Minnesota, I asked my supervisor; “What are the two biggest needs in this congregation for which you need help as the Pastor?” Rev Peter Seaberg replied; “ Glad you asked. Number one we get sick. Number two, we get broken. So here is a list, for you, of the people who are homebound or hospitalized. For you to visit and bring Holy Communion.
Yep, we all get sick and broken. Pastor Seaberg had childhood Polio. He knew about being sick and broken. He turned his life vocation into serving God’s people as a compassionate pastor.
The congregation chimed in with collaboration. We had me as a Vicar or “Intern” as we were called back then. We had a robust team of lay ministers who tracked whom was ill or hospitalized…and visited, bringing care and prayer. One lady was especially diligent at keeping everyone informed. We did not have text and email. But we met frequently for coffee and pastries. And we had phones.
St John’s. New Hope. Miles and decades apart. Both doing what Jesus instructed us. Extending God’s love. We’re in the ministry business. Welcome ALL. Keep us informed.
Here we go!
Interim Pastor Jeff Swanson
Greetings New Hope Lutherans and Friends
For many years, I’ve been thinking about the history of “salvation” teachings in the Church, beginning amongst the first Christians. So, I’ve decided to write a series of short essays. Limited to 500 words each. Easy reads...click on the button to begin :)
